The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has issued a set of new regulations for healthcare facilities across Afghanistan.
According to the new directives, female doctors who work in environments alongside male colleagues are required to have a male guardian (mahram).
The guidelines also emphasize the separation of workplaces for male and female healthcare workers. New restrictions have reportedly been introduced for women’s inpatient wards, while health facilities have been instructed to provide separate arrangements for male and female patients.
Several healthcare workers have also reported that additional orders have been issued regarding attendance at congregational prayers and compliance with certain appearance-related requirements.
The new measures come as the Taliban have imposed extensive restrictions on women’s education, employment, and social participation in Afghanistan over the past nearly five years.
