Lisa’s Father Recounts 14 Years of Abuse: Family Calls for Truth to Be Revealed

In an exclusive interview with Saniye News Agency, the father of Lisa Shams says his daughter endured years of violence, threats, and restrictions during her 14-year marriage. He alleges that these circumstances ultimately led to her death and says the family is now demanding a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the case.

Shamsuddin Shams, Lisa’s father, recounts that only seven days after her marriage, when Lisa returned to her parents’ home for a visit, the family tried to prevent her from going back to her husband’s house. According to him, Lisa rejected their request and told her family: “My self-respect is essential to me; I accept death, but not divorce.” He says his daughter returned to her husband’s home despite the family’s concerns.

Mr. Shams says that after his daughter’s death, he reviewed accounts from family members, audio and video recordings, and statements from people close to Lisa, which convinced him that the violence had continued throughout her married life. He refers to a nine-minute video in which Lisa speaks about the difficulties of her marriage and addresses someone called “Ziar Kaka.” According to the family, the video reflects part of the reality of her life.

Lisa’s father says that around 10 to 15 days before her death, his daughter was beaten again. He also claims, based on accounts from his grandchildren, that after that incident, Lisa’s husband attempted to end her life through medication. Shamsuddin Shams alleges that following the second violent incident, his daughter lost her life.

He adds that he and some members of the family live outside Afghanistan, while two of Lisa’s sisters were in Kabul. However, he says Lisa’s husband’s family prevented them from meeting with her. According to him, Lisa also complained about these restrictions in an audio recording that is now in the possession of the family.

Shamsuddin Shams says his daughter had expressed concerns about her future before her death but had not shared many of her problems with her family. He says Lisa had told some female neighbors that if anything happened to her, they should inform her sisters about a diary she kept inside a cupboard. He adds that statements from the neighbors have also been recorded and are available to the family.

Lisa’s father says that after the final incident of physical abuse, his daughter called him, but according to him, “it seemed that it was already too late.” He says Lisa’s sisters took her to a hospital, but efforts to save her life were unsuccessful.

In another part of his statement, Shamsuddin Shams alleges that a woman named Dina Kazemi was in contact with Lisa’s husband and that this relationship contributed to increasing tensions and violence. He also claims that the alleged abusive behavior was not limited to Lisa and that other daughters-in-law in the same family faced similar difficulties.

Lisa’s father says the incident has increased the family’s concerns about the safety of his other daughters. According to him, one of his daughters has managed to leave Afghanistan, while another continues to live under difficult circumstances and away from public attention.

At the end of his remarks, Shamsuddin Shams called on responsible authorities to investigate Lisa Shams’s death in a transparent and impartial manner. He also asked the public to pray for the safety and well-being of his family members.
