Sources in Herat: Taliban Detain Eight More Women

Local sources in Herat province say the detention of women by the Taliban is continuing, with eight more women reportedly arrested in the Jebrail area.

Sources told Saniha News Agency on Sunday, June 7, that the operation was carried out as part of a series of actions conducted in recent days across Herat city.

Eyewitnesses said the women were detained from the crowded Jebrail market in the presence of Taliban forces, including several female officers, and were subsequently taken to an undisclosed location.

According to witnesses, some of the detained women were wearing full Islamic hijab, yet they were still targeted in the operation.

The latest arrests come a day after reports emerged of a wave of detentions in Herat, during which dozens of women were allegedly taken into custody from markets and shopping centers across the city.

The incidents have occurred amid reports of increased surveillance and stricter enforcement of restrictions on women’s dress and movement in Herat.
