Local sources in Herat say that Morteza, a 16-year-old teenager who was injured during the recent protests in the city, died in hospital on Tuesday.

According to the sources, Morteza was wounded on 9 June after being hit by two bullets during a protest gathering by local residents. He was later transferred to Herat Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

Sources added that the teenager had been under medical care in recent days but succumbed to the severity of his injuries.

No further details have been released by local authorities regarding his medical condition or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The United Nations had earlier confirmed the death of another teenage boy during the crackdown on protests in Herat.
